How can I use the desktop gmail instead of mobile?

Scroll all the way to the bottom of the screen in the mobile site. There is (or at least there used to be) a link to the standard site.

Really, though, the experience through the Gmail app is much better.

I can access the regular facebook by using safari to go to www.facebook.com

have you tried to access it via safari? and if it takes you to m.gmail.com try going to the regular site.
