Notes: Float on Top stopped working.

I have been using Apple Notes to help me organize my desktops. I have ~6 desktops open and click back and forth for different tasks running simultaneously. I found that I could "peel off" a note and attach it to a specific desktop. This suddenly stopped today. The "Float on Top" option under the Windows pull down menu is now permanently grayed out. Is there a fix?

Thank you.

Hello YCHRC,

Indeed, the functionality did change somewhat. Now, rather than tearing a note off to display it in a separate window, one would double-click the note's entry in the left-hand list of the Notes application. Once a note is in its own separate window, the 'Float on Top' menu item becomes accessible.

I tried this several times: "double-click the note's entry in the left-hand list of the Notes application. Once a note is in its own separate window, the 'Float on Top' menu item becomes accessible." However, the "Float on top" is still a greyed-out item on the "Window" pull-down menu. It seems that, since I downloaded El Capitan, nothing I try can make the item available. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

I think this change is not only an annoyance but an arbitrary decision by someone...without seeking the advice of those who use it. It is not a helpful change. I want to be able to put the notes on top of all other windows at all times, not go seeking for the rest of my notes when I need to change. PLUS, I can't even get it to work in El Capitan sometimes. Not always, but I can't replicate when it doesn't precisely either. Annoyance. Let us just have all our notes on top if we want it.

I was having the same issue, and although I don't know why this is the case, I found that the "Float On Top" option remains greyed out for the Notes in my iCloud account. However, I also have notes that sync to my Gmail account, and when I double click those notes to open them up, the "Float On Top" option is now available.

Perhaps if you sync an email account or client to your computer (e.g., for Apple mail, Apple calendar, etc.) then saving the notes in that account instead of in your iCloud account will allow you to use the Float On Top feature. Also, I am able to access the same notes on my iPhone from either account, so it shouldn't impact that functionality.

Hope this helps!
