Hi I just got a MacBook pro with Retina, and I can't figure out how to download pictures off of a flash drive. I plugged it into the USB port, but I don't know what to do next...

goto FINDER > Preferences > General > click on hard disks AND external disks.
your memory stick will show on desktop, open it and drag and drop to where you want.
Choose Computer from the Finder's Go menu, double-click the drive, and drag the photo files to the desired location.

click on desktop, ......top MENU BAR will show FINDER......FILE......etc
click on finder. ,,,,2nd tab down is PREFERENCES
leftmost icon at top of box then is GENERAL box to click on....
then check hard disks, and external disks.
as such then everytime you plug in a mem stick or HD it will show on desktop.
