Q: Midi Tracks won't play back

Hi. Running Logic 8 on a Mac mini with OS 10.6

When I record a new midi region on a midi track, the data shows up visually, but won't play back unless I duplicate the track and copy the new region to the duplicate track. Any thoughts?

Logic Express 8, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
