Hi I am not able to connect the webcam or Sony cam to iMovie while i am able to see same in facetime or photobooth

Does iMovie's Help say the camera/webcam is compatible with your Mac OSX version?
Does Sony/webcam manufacturer says they are compatible with your Mac OSX version?
If the answers to lllaass's good questions are the cause of your problems, here are some workaround suggestions:
• To Record video directly into iMovie from an external source, connect a tape-based camera or camcorder.
• If you want to record video clips using a USB webcam, you can record into Photo Booth
or QuickTimeX Player and import the recorded clip into iMovie for editing.
