My iPod nano (7th Gen) side button is broke!

OK, so I have an iPod nano 7th Generation, and it is only a couple of months old. I use it a LOT and it seems like I've overused the middle button of the volume rocker on the side (the one used to play/pause/skip etc).

This is becoming an increasingly annoying problem, as whenever I try to listen to my music, it fast-forwards as the voice-over lady reads the song. she then reads through all of my Genius playlists and podcasts. It is really annoying to hear the start of a song, then "All I wanted - Paramore, Bite my tounge - You Me at Six, Classical Music - Playlist, The Best of Nick Grimshaw, The Scott Mills Daily" from the voieover lady's annoying american accent.

To start off with, turning it off and waiting for an hour or so worked but this has worsened...

Is this a hardware problem from overuse or a software problem? PLEASE HELP!!!

iPod nano, Windows 7
