my ipod locks up my itunes and computer

When I plugged my iPod up to iTunes, it locks it up. It has only starting doing it this week. I tried to reset the iPod but I can't do that. I have the 4th gen iPod nano. I have reset my iPod before by holding down the menu button and center button, but that is not working now. Am I doing something wrong?
