My Macbook pro has been stolen and then found by the police. I cannot have it back until I can prove that it is mine. I do not know my serial number and cannot find any of the sales reciepts or paper work.
How can I recover this information?

My phone and ipad are only on my apple I'd account.

If you can, I'm not aware of how. The OS does not usually keep a record of your computer's serial number because it is accessed from the motherboard's firmware.
If you ever used System Profiler and saved the profile, then you can get it from the saved profile.
I have and they're all saved in my backups, but when I open hem on a friends mac it just shows info for their machine as if it overrides it.

I would think that you should be able to sit down with the police, turn the Mac on, and demonstrate that something on it would show that you're the owner, i.e., your address in Contacts v.s. your drive'rs license.

If you registered your comp, Apple should still have a record.
Call Apple Customer Relations - 1-800-767-2275. Ask politely & firmly that you want to be transferred to Customer Relations. Tell them exactly what you stated in your post.
