comcast will allow me to manually connect the device but I need an IP address - how do I find this?
iPod touch, iOS 6.1.3
do you see the wifi network in the list?
Try this:
iOS: Connecting to the Internet
You do have a wifi router. right? the iPod will only connect to the internet via wifi. The USB connection does not provide internet connectivity.
Yes - and I have the password correct... I get a message that reads "unable to connect" I have had numerous devices connect to my home wifi but my ipod touch and our Roku tv device won't connect. ??
I tried to add the device manually through the comcast network gateway tool but they require a "reserved IP address" and I cant figure out how to get one when the device isn't connected to the internet. I have already tried clicking on the > next to the network name and nothing is listed for an IP.
Either contact Comcast since it may be specific to how Comcast setup your router or:
Does the iOS device connect to other networks?
Does the iOS device see the network?
Any error messages?
Do other devices now connect via wifi?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on the router
- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
- Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
- iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
- Restore from backup. See:
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
If you have a MAC filter enable on your wireless router, you should disable it. Then everything should be fine. I was pulling my hair out trying to figure it out for my brand new Ipad Air and voila that's it. Gook luck!!
