my mail is usually highlighted with a blue colored ribbon. It recently changed color to orange. What' up with that ? I'm not referring to junk mail. The message you highlight usually has a blue ribbon -- but now that has changed to orange. No idea why.

Not sure how it got changed, but the highlight color is set globally, not just for Mail, in , System Preferences, Personal, Appearance, Highlight Color as shown below.
