I was having the same problem of not getting the NONE box for my existing account. Trying the method of going to REDEEM in the Quick Links in the iTunes does give me the NONE box but then I have to fill in my address and it assumes I am in the USA, which I am not and it won't accept my zip code as it wants a 5 digit number where in my country we have 4 digits followed by two letters. This is absolutely maddening.

However, I then just filled in 12345 as my zip code and that was accepted.

I hope it won't get me into trouble later on...

This frickin worked! Ridiculous that a complicated procedure like this is needed for something as simple as updating apps without a credit card, but this workaround/hack works until apple gets their act together.
