Assume that whomever has your iPhone is reading your email. Inside those emails are of course many items of personal information; account numbers, contacts and passwords. You can't control what is done with the information, you can only try to restrict access.

Everything that has a password needs to be changed immediately. Start with the email password, then continue with financial accounts and memberships. Don't forget to make similar changes to other accounts, such as utilities, games and online subscriptions.

Provided you configured the iPhone with a passcode lock, your data will remain inaccessible without it. There is no way of circumventing the passcode without completely erasing the phone.

As the others pointed out, you cannot remotely erase the iPhone without having previously enabled "Find my iPhone", but if you enabled the passcode lock there is little reason for concern.

Lost iPhones are found all the time and even stolen ones are frequently recovered. Make it easy for whoever finds it to return it to you. Post "lost" flyers, contact your local police, etc. Consider using this: http://www.stolenlostfound.org/

I have the same problem, have lost tvhe iphone 5, I havent registered icloud but I have the iphone id number and I have set passcode. May I know whether I can erase all data by the iphone id number. Also I worry that the person picked the iphone will try to break my passcode to access the phone. Any solution to delete the data by id number please

If a person is determined to access the data on a passcode protected iOS device it is possible to break a 4-digit passcode given enough time. Having said that, the majority of iPhones that are stolen are taken because of the hardware. They are wiped, jailbroken and sold on the black market. Still, it is a good idea to have at least a 4 digit passcode on your iOS devices to deter theives. And now that iOS 7 is making it practically impossible for stolen iPhones to be resold and used they will become even less attractive to thieves.
