What's the best way to get rid of hairspray marks on my MacBook Pro?

Hey,

I recently noticed that there are hairspray cirle marks on my Mac Book Pro screen. I have used LCD wipes on my screen, I have use a spray and cloth (which were also used for LCD laptop screens) and they're still there! If I scratch at the marks lightly, they seem to go away so I know it's not water demage.

Is there any kind of soloution someone KNOWS works to get rid of these?

If you have had this problem before and know a soloution, please state!

P.S. I won't be spraying my hair spray in the same room as my Mac Book again...

Water is the only cleaner that you should use, but I would recommend using the micro-fiber cloth that should have come with your computer.

Understand that the solvents in hairspray may have damaged the screen coatings---there may still be marks after the solid bits of the hairspray are gone.

Our girls shared a downstairs bathroom. When they left the nest, it took weeks to get the surplus hairspray off the counter and linoleum floor. And it took more than water.

If you have to replace the screen, understand that it can be an expensive endeavor.

Hey Wayne,

Thank you for your quick feedback. As soon as I saw your message, I placed a towel over my keyboard, turned my laptop off, got a cloth and dampened it with warm water. I moved the cloth over the laptop screen and then used a dry cloth (the same cloth that came with the LCD cleaning spray) and the marks still stayed. I think this hairspray has probably been on the screen for a while, hence why it just won't budge unless you scratch it at... But I don't really want to have to result in doing that. I obviously don't want to come into the Apple store as I can gurantee they will make me pay an expensive amount to get it fixed so I'm just looking for someone to help before I have to result to that!

Thank you for your help though. It means a great deal.

Thank you Allan. Where could I get the screen replaced? Apple? Or do other places replace Mac Book Screens And how much would it cost? (Sorry the lots of questions. I understand if you don't know the answers ha.)

Realistically, if I have to result in replacing the screen, I may leave it until I end up changing my laptop/selling my laptop on. It's just annoying that they're there! And that everything I do to try and get rid of them just won't work!

An Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) are always best. I'm sure there are independent servicers that may take on the job. Depends on where you are. Give me a rough idea about your location and I can do some looking. There are a couple of places on the West coast I'd trust with my MBP.

I have no idea of cost but it will absolutely depend on the variant of the MBP you have. Older ones have a different display arrangement where it may be possible to replace only the screen cover. I understand newer ones like the Retinas are all one piece and you'd have to repalce the entire display assembly (everything above the hinge) and that could be in the US$500 range based on other posts here.

An Apple store can tell you once they know your exact MBP variant.

I have used Windex Electronic Cleaner on my MBP displays now for several months and find the results to be excellent. Whether this can have a positive affect on your hairspray marks I cannot say but it may be worth a try. I apply it with a dampened 6" x 6" microfiber cloth and dry it with a 15" x 15" microfiber cloth.

I found this in the local supermarket.

Note: This is NOT the ordinary Windex Cleaner.
