I just purchased a Sony HandyCam cx430v camcorder . Every time I try to use Imovie to import videos it gives an unexpected error and quits is there compability issues with these camera ?

I recently purchased a Sony HandyCam model HDR-CX430V and atempting to use Imovie8 to edit and view videos. I am able to see the video clips in Imovie from the camera however once I choose Import All and the process completes it gives an Unexpected Error message and does not allow me to view the videos. If I choose to view the videos before uploading them they stop after a few seconds of action..please help .
