Q: Can't find Time Machine on NAS. Is it a hidden volume?

Time Machine does not support backing up to a NAS, unless it is a Time Capsule, your situation may not be recoverable but I will see if I can point one of our Time Machine guru's in your direction.

I am using OS X Yosemite and had my TimeMachine set to my QNAP NAS.  It had been backing up for about 2 weeks, then stopped entirely.  Drive was not visible in TimeMachine although NAS drive was mounted and files could be accessed. This article helped me the most.

What I did to fix --  Open Finder, under GO, select CONNECT TO SERVER, then add AFP://192.168.x.xxx (IP of NAS drive).  It then asked me for connection Username and Password of TMachine.  I entered it and everything is operating as it should.
