I agree with wjosten, provide this feedback to Apple. Also, be sure to review any future updates to see if that feature has been made available.

One response we find quite often is that Find My iPhone is for finding lost devices, not stolen ones. But iOS 7 has some new features that make FmiP better when devices are stolen. Also, use restrictions to prevent someone from turning off the FMiP service.

Free, open source, hidden , & it works. More effective than Find My Phone. Find My Phone was never designed as an anti-theft device...just something to help locate lost phones/devices...big difference.

Prey is designed to recover stolen devices.

Prey is just as easily removed via a Restore as is Find My iPhone. So Prey is really no more secure.

I disagree. Prey is not visible on the device & can't be turned off by a thief. Most thieves are well aware of Find My Phone, but not Prey.

When iOS 7.0 is released, stolen iPhones running iOS 7.0 will not be able to be re-activated without knowing the original Apple ID/Password. Thus the usual trick of turning the phone off then restoring it will leave the thief with a brick.

Find My iPhone isn't obviously visible either, and can't be turned off if you lock the ability to make account changes in the Restrictions in iOS. A user similarly has to turn off Deleting Apps in the Restrictions to prevent Prey from being removed. In any case, from what I've read and known about stolen iPhones, most thieves just restore them as a matter of course, or sell them to someone who will do so. Only with a very unknowledgeable thief or buyer with either system be of much use.

This is not to say that Prey won't be useful, but it is not that much more of an assist to recover of a stolen iPhone than is Find My iPhone, and neither will be until iOS 7 makes it more difficult for someone to restore an iPhone.

Sorry for your loss. However, blocking powering off the phone isn't much of an impediment to a competent thief (meaning one smart enough to know to turn it off). There are many ways to defeat Find my iPhone, and eliminating one of them won't help all that much:

• Turn off the phone (as discussed)
• Wrap the phone in aluminum foil
• Drop the phone in a shoplifter's bag (lined with metal foil) or other Faraday cage
• Remove the SIM
• Restore the phone as new
• Heat it so the thermal shutoff disables it
