DVD player will not recognize movie DVD (music CDs are fine)

Suddenly my DVD player will not recognize a video (movie) DVD. About 20-30 seconds after inserting DVD, it is ejected. Music CDs work just fine. I have rechecked all the DVD player preferences and CDs & DVDs preferences and they are the same as on my iMac running same OS and is working well. I'm out of ideas - perhaps the drive is just getting old. But if it is a software problem, it would be nice to fix. Thanks for any ideas.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Superdrive, DVD Player 5.4.2

Another help source (if you haven't already done so).

Go to your OS Help Menu. In the search field type dvd

Click on all the troubleshooting topics & Support Articles that pertain to your issue.

You can also do the same in Disk Utility. Open same up.

At the bottom left of the window, click on the purple button w/the "?" in the middle.

This will bring up the Help Menu.

Make sure the DVDs are not dirty, smudged and/or scratched.
