You can sync your Contacts from your Mac and iPad using iCloud.
Apple - iCloud - Learn how to set up iCloud on all your devices.
If you already have iCloud setup, on your Mac open System Preferences > iCloud
Make sure Contacts is selected.
On the iPad, tap Settings > iCloud
Make sure Contacts is switched ON.
