Sep 9, 2013 6:57 PM in response to reneefromdowningby Demo,★HelpfulIf you can receive email but not send it, quite often that indicates that your username and password are missing in the outgoing mail server settings, so check the outgoing mail server setting. Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

Configuration problems with IMAP e-mail on iOS with a non-standard SSL port.
Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.
Cheers, Tom

Apr 23, 2014 5:54 AM in response to Demoby Michellis,Thanks for this. It's been a problem for me. I've set up my account countless times trying to fix this. Always enetering my password in the "Add Account" box. However you actually have to manually remove the password from the Outgoing Server box and re-enter it to get emails to send.

Nov 20, 2015 7:01 AM in response to Demoby PBATMAT,Thanks Demo! ...Works great now! Apple needs to fix this. Your are right, it said putting in password was "optional", but it is NOT. Now I just have to figure out how to do text message with non Apple users. Thanks a million
