So no Finder windows are opened when you click the icon? Have you tried restarting the Finder from Force Quit?
Reboot and try again.
Do you get a dot or some other indication it is open in the dock?
You need to look in your user Library/Preferences for thecom.apple.finder.plist. Either hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command and select your user Library in your home folder or use the Finder “Go To Folder” command and enter ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Relaunch Finder by loggin out/in and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plist to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you prefer to make your User library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.4. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.
I am having the same exact issue. I have yet to find any other solution besides E&I.
After you click the finder, do you see the menu title "Finder" next to the Apple of the Apple menu? If so what is listed in the Window menu?
B
For me, I do see finder. Under window menu, everything is grayed out, except bring all to front, which does nothing.
What all is in listed the Window menu?
I had the same problem. Moved the file to the desktop, restarted the computer and all is fixed.
I had the same problem that appeared from nowhere on macOS Sierra. I tried this (delete the .plist) and everything is good now. Thanks a lot!
You are welcome.
