Q: How can I connect to the internet

I recently purchased an Apple iBook 500 MHz G3 model that has a fresh install of System 9.2.2 and Mac OS X 10.3.9 (Panther) and can't connect to the Internet with my verizon dlink modem I then purchased an Edimax 150 Mbps wireless 802.11b/g/n nano USB adapter and still cannot get the iBook to configure for Internet access nor does it recognize the new hardware I am truly frustrated with this problem and looking for a solution to gain Internet access.

iBook, Mac OS X (10.3.x)

It seems that your new USB Stick does not provide a driver for MacOS 10.3 Panther.

The Mac drivers on the vendors homepage start with OSX 10.4 Tiger.

If your iBook has an integrated Airport card underneath the keyboard, you can connect your iBook to your dlink modem using Mac OSX 10.3  and WPA encryption. You have to configure your modem for this setting.

Thank you I tried changing the modem settings but it didn't work on the iBook.  This iBook is the first apple product I have purchased and have no OS or hardware experience for this whole situation.  Unfortunately, I didn't read the vendor page but took the specs from the store website where I purchased the adapter as a comparison to my model.  I still cannot get on the Internet and this iBook is becoming a huge paper weight.  Can you give me any other suggestions to try?

I forgot to mention I do have an Airport card but I receive a message that my password is incorrect (not true) and when I attempt by the dsl login a message that my PPPoE server is not found.  One other problem when I attach the Ethernet cable it doesn't even recognize the plug in.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

    Hello,

The problem with the Airport cards installed on the iBook G3's, is the compatibility with today's wifi encryption.

It needs to be set on the wireless router as WEP and WPA. WPA2 will not work and that is why you maybe getting an error with password being incorrect. Make sure your iBook is updated to version 10.3.9 and either change your wireless router to WPA/WEP or create a guest wireless network with encryption of WEP.
