All of my friends who are using MBA mid-2012 have SSD failures.

The SSD failed after two weeks out of warranty.

In my case, the MBA mid-2012 was freezing immediately. After restarting, the screen turned white with blinking folder.

I have done all the solutions and they all didn't work. I went to the apple store right after that since I thought that the warranty would last until the end of August 2013 (I brought the product at the end of Aug 2012). The guy looked on the system and told me that It's expired since 1st of August which is not correct.

After asking my friends and local stores, I have found that a lot of people who brought MBA mid-2012 got the same issues. Most of failures happened after the warranty is expired. Although It's my fault that I didn't buy the apple care on time,I am still very disappointed. The apple products were more reliable than the others.

You need to leave the laptop for around half an hour for it to respond. My machine had the same issue when I tried to fix it. I couldn't make it do anything and ended up leaving it alone for a little while and eventually I could force it to install the OS to a USB so I could boot my machine, but I couldn't do anything else with it really. I also think the hard drive falier was also an indicator of another problem with the machine because of how badly it was responding to simple things. Even with the USB in, it took a long time for me to be able to log in each time I booted it up (it was fine once I got past the log in screen but I still had to wait a while for the keyboard and mouse to respond).

Have same problem here.

I changed my MacbookAir 2012, 128GB Toshiba SSD about 3 weeks ago when my warranty was ended about 2 weeks before..

although my warranty was ended, i called Apple Official call center and i explained that i have check Apple Hardware Test in front of Official AS Center(Korea does NOT have Apple Store of Genius Bar.. it's so sad) when warranty was not ended, and the engineer said it has no problem!

Then they said me to repair it in free of charge, and i waited 3 weeks cuz SSD was lack of quantity all over the world.

I have sold my MacbookAir and bought MacbookPro Retina 13".. cuz i was afraid of DEATH of SSD.

this problem *****....

I bought md231 in the US, this year I was back China.

The ssd failed last night after I upgraded the system and reboot while I was opening a video. It never came back again, same question mark-- internet recovery failed-- disk 32KB...

It is obviously the quality problem according to so many complaints!

My Mac was out of warranty 2months , and there is no apple store in this city, the aurtherised fixer wanted to charge me 5000 yuan!!!!!! Almost 800+ dollars ! Shoot!

I think I will send it to my friend in Beijing and try the luck in Genius Bar...

Due to so many lost of my documents, and so many issues about mid 2012 MBA. If they won't fix it without charge, I may never buy Mac... Despite that I was a big fan owns iPods, iPhone before.

Yep my MBA mid 2012 displayed the Gray ? Folder of death screen. I did all the tips and tricks but still could not see my local SSD. Good thing I have a Time Machine Backup. Anyway..thanks to everyone especially Superman because of his posting about using Amex to buy it and will get an additional year of extended warranty. This is my only saving grace. My MBA 2012 is out of warranty for at least 3 months. Will be going to see the Genuises tomorrow to put the official stamp that this is a SSD problem. My trust in their product will be questioned after this incident. 😮

Yep... same problem here... about 3 months out of warranty, the 128GB SSD on my mid 2012 macbook air died (my MBA was crashing all the time and, after two trips to the Genius bar and multiple re-installs of the OS, the problem was finally diagnosed).

Big waste of time and money. I loved my MBA but it is the shortest lived laptop I have ever owned (and this includes Acer products). Bought a 13 inch Macbook Pro Retina to replace it (hope it wasn't a mistake).

All of my friends who are using MBA mid-2012 have SSD failures.
