Q: How to enable LTE connection in Sri Lanka? Local carrier Etisalat & Dialog offers LTE connections but is not available on iPhone5.

How is it possible to enable LTE connection in Sri Lanka? Local carrier Etisalat & Dialog offers LTE connections but is not available on iPhone5 (Factory unlocked). Does the carrier need to request that they be registered as a authorised LTE service provider by Apple? Or does Apple need to enable LTE usage for Sri Lanka?

iPhone 5, iOS 6.1.4, Factory Unlocked unit

First make sure that you have a LTE enabled nano SIM, if you don't have a LTE enabled SIM, you could get one from any Dialog outlet listed at this link. Once you have an LTE enabled SIM (or if you already do) check with Dialog if you have LTE enabled for your package (they would normally enable LTE in your package when you do a SIM change to a LTE enabled SIM). Once all of the above is satisfied, you should receive an automatic notification indcating there is a Carrier Settings update avalable for your iPhone. If you don't see this message, try going into Settings > General > About (this will force the phone to check if there are any pending updates). If your have a iPhone5, it should be model A1429 (GSM) to work on Dialog's LTE network. Any GSM version of the 5c/5s should also work based on the band support listed on the Apple's LTE support site.

My experience on Dialog's LTE has been very positive to date. Although Dialog states that average speed would be 10 - 30 Mbps with peaks of 50 Mbps, I managed to get 63 Mbps down and 16.5 Mbps up doing a speedtest using the Speedtest.net app (see screenshot below).

Thanks a lot bro! :) You've been a great help. And those down/upload speeds are impressive.

As I suspected in a previous post, the iPhone is now officially in Sri Lanka with Dialog being appointed an Authorized Partner and Service Provider for the iPhone in Sri Lanka.

Mobitel has launched the LTE network to the public but Apple hasn't approved Mobitel yet so no LTE for the iPhones, yet.

That's because that's a US gsm iPhone. It is NOT compatible with any LTE networks outside of the US. If you want 4g service outside of the US, you should have purchased a phone in your own country.

Unless your US phone compatible with Sri Lankas LTE frequencies (1800Mhz), it wont support LTE. My wifes being using a Iphone 5 model A1429 (Verizon) model in Sri Lanka and it's perefecty working with Dialog 4G LTE since it support 1800Mhz frequency. Since yours being a AT&T model it doesnt support 1800Mhz frequency. So only 3G portion will work.

Apple approved the LTE use in Sri lanka. Official carrier is Dialog. See its on there website. My problem is how to get correct settings. I mean carrier update. My device is supported the lte band 3. And carrier is providing the LTE on that band.

What is your carrier version? I use dialog 18.0. Is it the latest version??? And I couldnt use LTE on my iPhone. I got lte supported nano sim. But 4G is not working. But I contacted dialog. They said LTE is working on my iPhone. My model is A1524. It supports LTE on band 3 which is the band that dialog provides lte.

(Dialog Sri Lanka) supports devices on LTE Band 3 on 1800 MHz. Please provide your iPhone's serial number or model number so I can confirm your device complies with the supported LTE bands.

Nope. Canadian iPhone 5 lacks LTE bands deployed in Sri Lanka. You'll only get 3G
