I know that iPhone 5 bought from US doesn't have support for LTE in UK. According to the specs, it looks like iPhone 5s bought from US will have support for UK LTE bands. Am I reading the specs correctly? Thanks in advance for your help.

The only iPhone 5S that supports LTE in UK is the A1457 ,not available in US

I am looking at the "LTE Band Support" column and comparing US GSM model with UK Model. Looks like all the LTE bands for UK are supported by US model. If you look at iPhone 5 at the bottom of the link, no compatabilty between UK and US model. This is my assumption. Is it right?

Doesn't work like ,if it did why do you think Apple produce multiple models across the world ,it depends on grouping of bands which is why you need the model designed to work in UK if you want 4G
Also remember the warranty is not international a US purchased iPhone will only get warranty AND post warranty support in US

My understanding was that techincally, it should work.
I will be traveling to UK for couple months in a near future. Thus, the questions. Last time I visited I used my iPhone 5, and I always got 3G and speed was worse than a turtle.

Yes 3G is pathetic except in very large cities although 2g is good everywhere😟
Actually that's not true I bought a phone from the USA and went to apple here in Bristol it worked fine until I broke the home button but even then I was able to go to apple and get a replacement. iPhones are world phones. If bought unlocked from Apple it can be used anywhere in the world..... Fact!
If bought unlocked it is a world phone and it can be used where u please all restrictions only apply to carrier phones..... Even then if factory unlocked at a later date it is a world phone it's really that simple This is why apple said...."we have never sold a iPhone in China.....bit we know they have a lot of them". Not the exact wording but u get my point.
