I recovered my hard drive from backup in windows vista and reinstalled itunes. When I sync my ipad of iphone and select apps, the screen layout is shown in the right hand panel but the apps do no show up in the left panel. Before the recovery operation the apps were found in the left panel categorised as iphone and ipad.

Now I cannot temprarily delete apps in case they are permanently deleted.

With iTunes open, and you iPhone / iPad plugged in. Right click on the tiny Black & White square at the top right.

Click on View -  "Show Menu Bar".  Go down to  "Devices " And  "Right Click" on your iPhone / Pad name, then click on "Transfer Purchases", sit back while they all load in.

*** Update - Aha, got it. In iTunes under your Apple ID (top bar to right of Apple logo) select Purchased from the dropdown list and login. Select Apps, Not in my Library and then Download All. Or you can just be selective and click on the one(s) to download.

if you click on view at the top left hand side then go to show menu bar, there is no black/white square, the menu with 'file, edit, view, control' etc is automatically there?

Hi, in the newer version of iTunes, with your device plugged in via USB, you need to click on the little icon in the top left of iTunes and select Show Menu Bar, then go to File on the grey bar, go down to Devices > and select Transfer Purchases From [your device name]. Took me a while to find it but working ok now. Hope this helps.

Great help - am running iTunes 12 and the last tip worked great .. Ta.. ..  But......

I have now downloaded all my purchases from iPad into my 13" MacBook Air and its taken nearly 2G of disk space (which on the wee Air is a big problem !). I guess its transferred lots of files but apps like Adobe Draw and Sketch which I suspect have some big files do not show up down the page under the App > Files section in iTunes and many other apps are missing from here.

How can I find and delete all the files that have been sucked into my MB Air after restoring purchases. I have not chosen to backup my iPad to the Air, but who knows what iTunes has decided to do

Update : I have found the Apps menu in iTunes and deleted all Apps, wow, 3.75GB drive space back !! What does this mean ?, when you transfer purchases then it copies ALL the actual Apps into lappy hard drive and not just a tag to manage the mobile device - for what reason - Backup ?

Never really did understand iTunes, its the devil that we need .

Thank you that worked, why is the interface so bad within iTunes, why don't they test their software with either new users or people who don't have iphones.

The biggest problem with Apple is that they can be very "Smug" just assuming that we are all "experts" in the software field.

I did this in itunes 12, but the app still does not show up in the left pane.  The Name is MP3 Books.  It is visible in the window that let's you reorganize the apps and it seems I can move it around OK.

    Thanks

I re-synced my iPhone from my Mac to my PC because iTunes 12 isn't supported on my Mac with 10.6.8. Now the apps list is empty even though the apps are on the iPhone and you can see them in the window that lets you re-arrange them. I did a 'Transfer Purchases' as suggested but no luck. I then installed a new app on the iPhone and repeated in the hopes that it would kick it somehow but no luck. Doing a sync didn't work either. So any other suggestions?

    Hi yee

i can find my purchased app after login Apple ID and found a small icon on the bottom of the right hand corner, saying "download all app?", do u mean to download back these purchased app back to PC for the sync process?

  • Douglas Yee Level 1 Level 1

Yes. I re-synced to a different computer without copying my old iTunes library over, so the apps weren't on the new computer. This fixed that problem.
