Q: Cannot get TV Shows to add to library.

Just bought an iMac 27 inch, trying to load all my TV Shows and Movies into a new library on the iMac, for some reason the TV Shows will not add to this library. Nothing happens, tried dragging and dropping and adding via the File menu. Frustrated or what?? All worked fine on itunes for windows.

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

Where are you trying to load the from?

You have an old Windows computer?

Use -> WIndows Migration Asistant to copy all your data from old computer to new computer.

If you don't want to do this (I highly recommend it), then copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer to /Music/ on new computer.

This is all you need to do (to copy your iTunes library).

Hi, Thanks for your reply, I had copied all my media onto an external hard drive, trying to add them to itunes on the new mac, tv shows and movies will not add for some reason. I even tried copying to the Lacie i bought and adding to the library from there, it just won't do it. All music and tones and apps added no problem. Really frustrated now.

You don't need to add anything to iTunes.

Simply copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old comnputer to /Music/ on new computer.

This is your iTunes library. When you open iTunes it will be exactly the same as your old computer. Same ratings, same artwork, same date added, # of plays, all music, TV Shows, movies, etc.

I'm afraid it is nowhere as simple as you say, my library from my windows pc is almost 2GB in size on a 4GB extra HDD. I had simply removed this drive from my pc and connected up to the mac, the HDD in the mac is only 1GB in size so would be no good for the library. I purchased a Lacie 2Big thunderbolt, this is where I pointed my library to on preferences within itunes. It has copied all music, apps and tones, about 8 movies and 2 TV Shows, but will not recognise any other movie or TV show!! I have about 600GB worth of movies and about 1TB of TV shows that WILL NOT show up in itunes. I actually think it has something to do with the way I converted the files as the ones that are added ok were only converted in the last 2 weeks or so. I attempted to re-convert a tv episode and it uploaded first time....STRANGE but true.

You have the sizes wrong. You probably mean TB, not GB.

    But whatever.

If you want to maintain the library on the external.

    1. Copy the entire /Music/iTunes folder from old computer to external drive.
    2. Connect it to the Mac.
    3. Hold Option, launch iTunes, select Choose library... and select the iTunes folder you copied to teh external.

That is all you need to do.

You will not need to change iTunes prefs > Advanced - iTunes media folder location as it will use the current location on the external. Also, you will not need to add or import anything.

The library will be identical to iTunes on the other compuiter (since it is simply a copy of it).

Finally worked it out, YEEHAAA, I had to open iTunes in 32 bit mode for it to recognise my TV Shows, Movies.
