Q: Wrong Apple ID in my iPhone iCloud

I have a new Apple ID as I had to change email addresses. This I have changed on my MacBook Pro.

On my iphone, when I go to iCloud, account details, it shows a different (old) Apple ID.

How can I change it to the correct one?

I don't seem to be able to cancel or change the wrong Apple ID on my iphone.

I'm not on icloud & I sync my Iphone to PC.  I'm on Microsoft cloud for business reasons. Old email address is defunct & not accessible. Keeps asking me to sign into my phone with that old address & I didn't know the password.  Eventually prompted me to IForgot so I could reset password. I did & instead of resetting password on the defunct address (which I hoped I could sign into & then delete on my phone), it changes the password on my current correct apple ID (doesn't reset the wrong email address id). So frustrating.  On computer Apple ID is correct but on Iphone it pops up with the defunct address.  The phone is updated with latest software.  I think it's time for the genius bar.

Having just changed my Apple ID to separate myself from my son who was sharing my ID I can tell you how to handle this in IOS7.  I went to the Apple web site and established my new ID.

I followed the advice on this support page to change my Apple ID  Change your Apple ID - Apple Support

I then followed the advice on this page to update the ID on my device Sign in with a different Apple ID on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

IMPORTANT!!!! When you delete your iCloud for your old Apple ID off your phone you will lose all your documents that are in the cloud but not your contacts that are out in the cloud.  Also, before following the directions on the"Sign in with a Different Account" page to delete the iCloud Apple ID first turn off iCloud sync on each item individually.  When you turn off the sync it will ask you if you want to keep the data on your phone.  Yes you do want this.  After turning off sync individually Delete the iCloud account for the old Apple ID.  Then when you then sign into iCloud with your new Apple ID select the Merge option and it will upload all your contacts and data to the iCloud account for your new Apple ID.

If you simply Delete your iCloud account it will delete all your contacts off your phone.  If you delete iCloud without first turning sync off Contacts and your contacts are then deleted off your phone, don't worry.  Simply log back into iCloud with your old account and your contacts will be restored.  Then you can turn off the sync on all items, Delete the old account from iCloud, sign in with the new apple Id, select Merge iPhone data.  So it puts your contacts and data from your phone into your new iCloud account.

The only thing I would change in your instructions is there is no "delete account" button on the iphone in icloud.  What you want to do is press "sign out".  Then you'll be prompted to either keep or delete the account on the iphone.

Other than that thank you.  This was driving me nuts trying to update the email address on the iphone that was associated with icloud.

    Hi randers4,

I realize these posts were from a couple of years ago, but I am having this problem today after my update.  I'm trying your solution, but when I go to manage my apple ID, I have to remove a rescue email address (which happens to be the one that is no longer a valid apple ID).  It's no problem removing the rescue email address, but when I go to change my current apple ID to the one I removed as a rescue email address it tells me that "Apple ID must not be your rescue email address".  Uggh!  I deleted it already and it isn't even listed as a rescue email address, there is another one already listed.  I spent an hour on the phone with Apple yesterday because the same thing was happening on my Mackbook (asking me to sign into iCloud with an Apple ID that doesn't even exist). Hopefully you can help me so that I don't have to go through that again.  Thanks!

Having the exact same problem right now, upgrading from my 6 Plus to 6s Plus - my cousin's account info pops up and asks for his password, even after repeatedly entering MY Apple ID and password - when I select the iCloud backup, it prompts for his password. We've never shared an account, my phone is also not jail broken - fresh out of the box from the Apple Store. Why is his name associated with my account and how can I set up my new phone with MY backup and information?!

Wow, I have been locked out of my ICloud for months now and this worked!  I have called Apple, taken my IPad into an apple store, and searched everywhere online until I tried what you recommended.  Somehow my old apple ID was no longer in use so the passwords were not working to sign me out of my ICloud.
