Can I get applecare for an iPhone5 now?

If I buy a new iPhone5 on ebay, will Apple allow me to purchase Apple Care now that they've discontinued the model?

You got one answer. Templeton Peck is correct. You didn't specify the country, and wherever you can purchase AppleCare you have one year from the original date of purchase of the phone. Since you now say you are in the US this information is not relevant for you.

Your profile doesn't say where you are located, and, believe it or not, there are iPhone users in countries other than the United States.

There are 2 answers because there is AppleCare and AppleCare+ which are different. AppleCare can be purchased in certain countries within the 1 year limited warranty and AppleCare+ can only be purchased within selected countries within the 30 days of the original purchase date and includes 2 accidental damage incidents.

Buying from Ebay US does not mean the iPhone is orignally from the US but it might be. Also you cannot be sure if it is still within the 30 days of the original purchase without the iPhones IMEI or serial # to confirm it.
