Can I get applecare for an iPhone5 now?
If I buy a new iPhone5 on ebay, will Apple allow me to purchase Apple Care now that they've discontinued the model?

iPhone 4S
You can purchase AppleCare anytime up to one year from the original date of purchase.
You can purchase AppleCare anytime up to one year from the original date of purchase.
That depends on what country the phone was originally sold in. Apple Care is not available for the iPhone 5 in the US. Only AppleCare+, which must be purchased within 30 days of the original purchase.
So I am getting 2 answers, diametrically opposed, one year and 30 days. Which one is it? This one will be purchased in the US on ebay. Thanks guys.
You got one answer. Templeton Peck is correct. You didn't specify the country, and wherever you can purchase AppleCare you have one year from the original date of purchase of the phone. Since you now say you are in the US this information is not relevant for you.
Your profile doesn't say where you are located, and, believe it or not, there are iPhone users in countries other than the United States.
There are 2 answers because there is AppleCare and AppleCare+ which are different. AppleCare can be purchased in certain countries within the 1 year limited warranty and AppleCare+ can only be purchased within selected countries within the 30 days of the original purchase date and includes 2 accidental damage incidents.
Buying from Ebay US does not mean the iPhone is orignally from the US but it might be. Also you cannot be sure if it is still within the 30 days of the original purchase without the iPhones IMEI or serial # to confirm it.
Lawrence, you have confused me, if templeton peck is correct, can I then purchase Apple Care or not?
Nobody can answer that with certainty because:
- you havn't said what country you are in
- we can't be sure of the original purchase date of the iPhone
Thank you ios, I'll have to ask the seller where the item was purchased originally. So I'll hope it has been purchased within 30 days and if not I don't want it. Thank you
Oh I am in the US
No worries happy to help🙂
Then yes you would need to make sure it is within the 30 days of original purchase which would enable you to purchase AppleCare+.
But can't he still get AppleCare if he is still under the 1 year warranty?
AppleCare is not available in the US. Only AppleCare+, which has a 30 day window.
FYI: Ebay is not an authorized source for iPhones. There are no "authorized" distributors of iPhones on ebay. 90%+ of the "unlocked" iPhones on ebay are hacked, not legitimately unlocked.
Since when is AppleCare not available in the U.S.?
Since AppleCare+ was made available.
