iTunes won't show my iPod shuffle after restore

So my computer and iTunes obviously detects my iPod shuffle (2nd gen) because iTunes tells me its corrupted or what not and that I need to restore it. So I do just that, and after the "restore" iTunes doesnt show the device. So now not only did i wipe all my music on it for no reason, I can't put music back on it. This shuffle is essential for going to the gym and I need this problem resolved ASAP!

FYI, I tried everything I can think of and everything I can find online (reinstalling iTunes, updating drivers, reseting the iPod, etc)

EDIT: Also, if I unplug the iPod shuffle and re-plug it in, iTunes opens up automatically, still not showing the device though.

If iTunes opens up when the shuffle is connected, it seems to be recognized.

Do you have the iTunes sidebar visible? If the sidebar (along left side of window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar. If your shuffle is the only Apple device connected, does the heading DEVICES appear in the sidebar? If so, your shuffle is not shown below DEVICES?

Under File in the menu bar, the commands under Devices will be greyed out unless you select a device in iTunes, so that is expected (since you don't have your iPod selected in iTunes).

However, if there is no DEVICES heading in the sidebar, that means iTunes is not seeting any device connected. But since you see it under Windows, it is not a problem with data connection. You can try the suggestions in this article

If your version of Windows happens to be XP (32-bit), you can also try using this utility

It does what a Restore using iTunes normally does, except in unusual cases where the shuffle does not appear in iTunes, even though it is recognized by the computer. Unfortunately, if your Windows version is later, it does not run. If there is a conveniently located Apple Store, you could take it there to have the techs at the Genius Bar run the utility; it won't matter if they use a Mac because shuffles are formatted the same. And they may have some other ideas. You should take your USB cable along, and maybe also your computer, if it's a laptop. You can make a reservation using the store's web page
