my icloud calendar on my macbook is not syncing to icloud

I have a couple icloud calendars that I have added a bunch of events to on my macbook. These events do not show up on icloud online or on my iphone which is set to automatically sync to icloud. I have tons of events on my macbook and I would like to be able to see them on my iphone through icloud too. I can't lose these events, please help!

Merely turning off iCloud should not cause any irreversible changes to your calendar or anything else. That said, you should of course back up all data before doing anything else.

Please describe in detail what happened when you took all the applicable steps in the support articles. That's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem.

When I go to system preferences to turn off icloud it comes up with a message saying calendars stored in icloud will be deleted from my mac. Since my icloud calendars are not actually on the icloud, but just show up on my mac, then i assume they will be lost if I say okay to the message. Do you think they will not be deleted from my mac?

That's right, but they won't be deleted from iCloud or from your other devices. When you connect to iCloud again, the calendars should resynchronize. That said, as a precaution you should back up your iCloud data anyway by following the instructions here:

iCloud: Archiving or making copies of your iCloud data

Back up all data before making any changes.
