OSX L2TP IPSEC VPN wont work

Hi all,

so I recently setup a windows 2008 R2 server with Remote access and Routing.

I tested this on a windows client and it authenticated and logged on straight away

I have tried this on two different Mac's with both the inbuilt Mac vpn client and the Cisco client (on both a Tiger machine and a ML machine)

the error I get is that it is unable to connect, I've looked though the logs on the server and there is no indication the Mac clients are even getting that far, I wondered if anyone had come across this or if anyone might have any suggestions.

thanks

OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

I now belive that for some idiotic reason apple decided to use a random port for Ipsec rather than using 1701, could anyone clarify this? also has anyone got any idea of how to force it to use this port?

Port 1701 is used by OS X Server for VPN (UDP). See here for a list of ports used by Apple software.
