You say to remove what you don't need, if I delete say books to free up 58.5 MB.  Am I right in saying this will delete all books in all devices.

    Thanks.

My phone says that too, but then I deleted some stuff off of my phone. But it still continues to say the same thing, I have 2.5MB left on my phone. And you're saying one lousy picture takes up more than 2.5MB?

A photo taken with an 8MP camera is around 4MB in size.

Hey Liz! I know I'm a little late, but believe it or not, I actually have found a solution to this problem. Basically, you use facebook as cloud storage. A detailed tutorial can be found here

    Hope this helps!

I'm also having the same problem. I've had my iPhone about 3 months now and love it, save for the storage issue. I specifically asked the Verizon rep how many pics it could store, as I take a lot. He assured me I'd have room 'for about 1000'. I was never able to get over 100. In the beginning, I had 85 photos on my phone before running into storage problems. I've deleted a number of apps I had downloaded to free space and now just have 5 apps.(in addition to what comes with the phone)

    In Photos, I have exactly:

    8 recently added photos

    one 36 sec. video

…and I can't take any photos or video.

The last month I deleted as much as I could, sending pics to iCloud and downloading to iPhoto on my computer, yet the available space on my phone keeps shrinking. I'm obviously missing something here as it makes no sense that I keep deleting and yet have less space for photos than previously.

Going into settings/usage, (under Photos and Camera) I have 598 MB in 'Photo Library', 80.9MB in 'My Photo Stream', and 275MB used in 'Shared Photo Stream'. Is there a way to delete 'My Photo Stream' and 'Shared Photo Stream'? And are the 13 pics and a 36 sec. video taking up 598 MB of space?

Is there something else I should be looking at? I'm not good at deleting e-mails and tend to let them sit in the In box after reading - could that be a factor? Is there a second 'trash' needed (as on my computer) to actually be rid of them? Or does the initial 'delete' take care of it?

    TIA - much appreciated.

Mine too. Deleted all music, movies, photos etc but only helps for a short time. my phone shows only 11.8 gb left, but when I look at the capacity through my computer, it shows more than 11gb unused.

As , "11.8 gb left" and "more than 11gb unused" mean pretty much the same thing, it's not clear where the confusion lies.

Trying to sort this out for a family friend.  Her iPhone 5s says she has 5GB memory of which 4.3Gb is available.  Still wont allow any photos to be taken because of insufficient room.  Neither she nor I can fathom our what the problem is.
