Q: I have movie/video clips on my old DELL computer and am trying to transfer it all to my MAC desktop. I downloaded them to a thumb drive and transferred the videos to my desktop but now I can't open them....I can't download them into iPhoto and iMovies

I have an old DELL PC with videos on it and want to transfer those to my MAC desktop. I downloaded them to a thumb drive and then to my MAC desktop. I cannot open the video (different format?) and can't down load them to iPhoto nor to iMovie. Any advice?

iMac (21.5-inch Late 2009), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

Open them using the free VLC player.

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html

You will need to right or control click on the app to "Open" past Gatekeeper controls.
