Q: How do i get my music and films on my new laptop?

Your content will only be where you copy it, it's not automatically downloaded/copied when you sign into your account on a new computer. If they are iTunes purchases, then depending upon what country that you are in (films and music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) and whether they are still in the store (content providers occasionally remove thier items) then they might show under the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page for re-downloading.

Or you can add them to your new laptop's iTunes from your backup of your library via File > Add To Library
