Hello 104481,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

I found an article that talks about the error message about not being able to recognize an iPod that should help in this situation.

iTunes reports that "iTunes cannot recognize this iPod at this time"

In some cases, your iPod may simply need to be reset. Follow the steps below to reset your iPod:

  1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, and then turn it off again).
  2. Press and hold the Menu and Center buttons simultaneously for about 5 to 8 seconds until the Apple logo appears. You may need to repeat this step.

If resetting the iPod does not resolve the issue, the iPod may require service. Schedule a service appointment with the Apple Retail Store, an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or the iPod Service Website.

Regards,

Sterling
