How can I pair my iPhone remote with iTunes?

I am trying to pair my iPhone remote app with my iTunes library however I cannot seem to find the 'necessary' Remote button on iTunes client. I have looked all over and no where can I see any mention of where exactly it is supossed to be found. The App on my phone says that I need to enter a 4 digit code on my computer but I cant locate where I need

I am also trying to set this up on my college Wifi network which apparently blocks home sharing as well.

Let me know!

Thanks

Will

Oh my gosh! I figured it out! You don't need to do it in iTunes, you do it in Apple TV!

Once you get the 4 digit code, go into General Settings in Apple TV to pair the Remote App. Enter the code, scroll to add your phone (obviously you'll need to be on the same wi-fi network) and it unlocks your iTunes library and connects everything automatically after that! It took about 3 seconds; the remote works and my entire library is accessible. 🙂

After trying EVERYTHING, this finally worked...Thank you L Ping!! It would be nice if Apple could make it work with IPv6...I can't imagine how many people are being affected by this.

A general rule to fix the network problem is to restart your home network router. If the problem remains, you can try switch IP4 to IP6. To do so: Open Control Panel > Choose Network and Internet > Select the View network status and tasks under the Network and Sharing Center section > Choose your active network connection > Click the Properties button > If Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) is checked, uncheck it, then click OK > Restart iTunes and check if iTunes Home Sharing will work.

I know this is a fairly old thread, but in case people are still coming across it (like myself), it should be noted that turning off IPv6 in Windows 7 and restarting iTunes does indeed resolve the problem with Home Sharing iTunes libraries not showing up in the Remote app. Check out L ping's post on this thread if you require instructions on disabling IPv6.

If you have iTunes 12 and the latest Remote app on your iPhone, you need to turn on Home Sharing on the computer and the phone. You no longer have to go to Remote in iTunes and put in a four digit number. Your music library will just show up on the phone. The thing that was keeping mine from working was that in the Settings on the phone under Remote, "Use Cellular Data" was turned on. Turn it off and everything works!

The alternate method didn't work for me. This is yet just another thing they screwed up with the latest iTunes. II so wish I could go back to 11, but if you do you can't sync your phone. n the good 'ol days, you just paired it, and it worked. Now its some hidden stupid thing. I really hate itunes now. I really, really, really hate it!!!

PS, Apple software designers. If I already know how to use something as simple as pairing a remote, and it works. Please don't fix it. Tho you may be amusing yourselves by making it clever, someone like me, who has been on a mac since 1988 doesn't want to have to figure this out again. I just wasted an hour of my time and it still doesn't work. The latest software your putting out is going down hill. Just sayin'.

Hi Starspy when I had this problem first I opened the iPhone's tab on the side bar until I saw the usual screen:User uploaded file

Then I opened the Remote app on the iPhone. I selected the 'add iTunes Library' option in the app and a few seconds later the option the type in the four digit code appeared on my computer. Once I typed the four digit code from my iPhone into the computer everything paired up.

This is how it worked for me and once I had done it I couldn't redo it so I can't provide any other screen shots to clarify what I'm talking about. Hope this helps

I have found the answer for iTunes (version 12.2.1.16)

Set up home sharing on your account per the directions provided by apple support and proceed in the Remote app to add a new library and it will produce a four digit code.

Once your four-digit code is displayed, User uploaded file hover over the phone in the devices manager and you will see the remote button underneath the tab that takes you to the device manager. Once you click on it, you'll be prompted to enter your code and connection will be instant. I hope this helps! I found it by accident and frustration.
