Just managed to get on my main Aperture system and try out the latest update. No problems here with Raw's imported from a Canon 40d. All seems OK.
Thanks for checking, Frank. I'll try the same bunch of raws on a different Mac, when I get home. Did you check on 10.8.4 or 10.8.5?
Did you check on 10.8.4 or 10.8.5?
10.8.5.
10.8.5.
I'll check if that makes a difference. I am back to my backup disk and can risk to upgrade now.
I installed the new raw update 4.09 on my iMac and the second MBP (early 2011), while still running MacOS X 10.8.4, and in both cases the same Canon raws did not require reprocessing. So I am probably having a problem with these files on my travel MBP (late 2011); perhaps the architecture makes a difference, internal SSD and a second internal drive with the Aperture library. I'll wait for the next raw update and see what will happen.
Could be GPU related.
Leonie,
Can you open a different Library from this travel Mac?
Ernie
Could be GPU related.
I hope not! 😮 That is the mac that has a brand new logic board and a clean installed system after showing pink stripes on the start up screen and occasional kernel panics.
The only peculiar thing was that the Canon raws wanted reprocessing, otherwise they are fine. The other raw files (dng) are o.k.
Can you open a different Library from this travel Mac?
Thanks, Ernie. All libraries on both internal disks open fine.
I meant so you could then add new RAWs to a different Library.

I see, yes, I checked. New raw images are importing fine. i created a new test library to check that. It is the reprocessing of older imports that is worrying me, since the raw update did not indicate that there are canges for my camera model. But I'll check again with new pictures when I get home.
And do you have any library on still another disk to test the older RAWs away from the libraries on the internal disks?
Ernie
As I tried to explain earlier, whenever apple updates OSX they often include tweaks and/or major improvements to the OSX raw conversion file algorithms which are camera-model specific. Likewise tweaks and/or major improvements to OSX raw conversion file algorithms can come from apple OSX upddates like 10.8.5, or from apple updates to Aperture software versions, or simply as Aperture raw conversion file updates, as is 4.09. If your canon eos 5d mark II is having problems importing raw files directly into Aperture 3.4.5, perhaps you have missed an update for your system somewhere along the line?
Did you update to 4.09 and did you update your OSX to 10.8.5 and if so, does your canon eos 5d mark II now import raw files properly into aperture 3.4.5 ?
I have just updated to Camera Raw 4.09 and my Aperture version is 3.4.5 and my OS version is 10.8.5. Just imported both JPEG and NEF files (separate versions). All the NEF versions come up as "Unsupported Image Format."
I just wonder how hard it might be to actually verify that the latest camera raw formats are supported. You would think that someone at Apple uses Aperture and has a Nikon D600 and would notice that NEF images come up as "Unsupported."
Very frustrated that something as simple as format conversion (working at one time) gets so easily broken!
Also, why not allow edit with the "other" editor passing the input file "as is?"
Sigh!!
It's not the file type it's the camera.
If your camera is not on the supported list Raw files won;t work regardless of the file type.

Long before 4.09, and in fact before 4.07, I tested shooting with a D600, and importing the NEF files into Aperture. It worked without issue, and no message about unsuported.
Furthermore, I just now returned to those NEF files in the project where they reside, asked for a New Version from Original, and again no problem whatsoever in providing that new version. This in Aperture 3.4.5, and 10.8.5.
As Frank says, you have other issues.
