How do I connect an old external hard drive to an early 2006 iMac using a firewire cable.

I have an old external hard drive with 10.7 Lion that I need to install to my 10.6.8 IMac computer (2006 early). My uncle told me to get a firewire cable to connect it and I barely can even see the opening to the hard drive. I now see it and it looks like it has 4 small pins. I have no idea which firewire cable to buy, nor where to get it. Can someone please help? Iv'e been trying so many cables for the past 10 days and wasted 5 bucks.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Help

The old 2006 iMac supported FW400. FW400 uses a 6-pin cable that looks like this:

Now, I have no idea what Firewire connection is on the drive, but if it also looks like the one on your old iMac, then you need a standard FW400 cable. However, the drive's enclosure may not even support Firewire, but I would have to see the rear of the drive to tell what it did support. For example, if it supports USB, then you could also use a USB cable because the iMac also supports USB.
