    Yes.  To prevent this if you have a PC, copy them to another folder on your computer before deleting them on your phone.  If you have a Mac, check Automatic Import in iPhoto>Preferences>Photo Stream and your photo stream photos will automatically be imported to your iPhoto library, where they will not be deleted.
