So I ordered an iPhone 5 from Verizon around August 27, and earlier today during school a friend hit my pocket where I was keeping my phone and it fell on the concrete and got a big crack on the display. I want to take it to Apple and get it replaced, but I'm not sure if the normal one-year warranty would apply to a Verizon-bought phone.
Does anyone know if it would? If it doesn't, any alternatives to replacing/repairing the phone?

Like any warranty on any product, damage is not covered at all.
As the others have told you, that damage is not covered by the 1 year warranty that comes with the new iPhone purchase. If you happened to purchase AppleCare+ with your new iPhone, then that would count as one of your 2 "incidents" where you can get a replacement for $49...
As everyone has said it doesnt cover that kind of damage but I suggest taking it to Cellaris and have them fix the screen.
