If you have no sound at all, even in the Music App, try rebooting the iPad.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If you lost sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

If you still have no sound at all ....try cleaning the dock connector opening of the iPad with a soft brush and just a little bit of rubbing alcohol.

Double-click the Home button and swipe the Task Bar to the right. Check volume and mute settings (far left).
still no sound after i restore my ipad..
You restore to Factory Default (as new) and it still doesn't work?
If that's the case, it' time to let Apple have a look at your iPad.
yes i set to factory default (as new) but still no sound.ok thank you for your advice.
You are most welcome 🙂
I have the same problem and tried all suggested way but speaker having no sound but working well thru head phone and others out put jack
I have the same problem with my ipad3. Tried everything suggested, but did not work. Apple tech support guy told me it it could be hardware problem. I asked him to let me downgrade to previous version to confirm it. He said Apple would not allow it. Upon on insisting about the downgrade, he said it is possible that IOS7 installation might have damaged sound hardware. I lodged a complaint in BBB and waiting for reply.
Demo's suggestion 4. worked for me. Keep ports clear of dust and debris:
"4. If you still have no sound, try cleaning the dock connector opening of the iPad with a soft brush and just a little bit of rubbing alcohol."
Keep the headphone jack(port) clear too.
It is not always a software or iOS version issue.
I have the same problem after upgrade to iOS 8.1.3. I'm using iPad 3.
