Hi, try in System Preferences to see whether BT is enabled, if not then tick the appropriate box and see if that helps.
Failing that reset SMC, this should kick start BT for you. See here for instructions on how to reset SMC:

Best of luck.
Go back to 10.8.4 (use timemachine). Apple has messed up the bluetooth kext and is not working in 10.8.5 and 10.9.
Early Macbook Aluminium model and not working! I've tried resetting everything but the only thing that works is going back to 10.8.4.
So Apple, any solution?

That's simply not true - I've been running 10.8.5 betas, and now the final release, for months and have never had any problems with my Bluetooth devices.

I have the same problem, bluetooht not available, No Bluetooth hardware found. and mouse and keyboard are not working properly.
Do you have an early Macbook Model 13" Aluminium Model? Because, clearly, Apple has removed the definition of it's bluetooth module from the kext.
I had to copied it back from the kext on 10.8.4 (thank you hackintosh community 😉). So yes, they've messed up, and the solution is beyond what must people (especially Apple users) are able to do.
There is no bluetooth anymore in system preferences. I am back to 10.8.4 and then blueutooth is working again en back in system preferences.
Can you explain a little bit more how to proceed? Thank you
I have the problem on iMac 27 late 2009.
After I restore to 10.8.4 I tried again the update 10.8.5. And again there is no bluetooth,
Again back to 10.8.4 and I have bluetooth back in system preferences and mouse and keybord are working.
The easiest way, is to copy the "IOBluetoothFamily.kext" before upgrading (it's in /System/Library/Extensions). After upgrading, backup the one from 10.8.5 put the one you copied (the 10.8.4 version) in it's place. Reboot the computer and it's done.
Or if you want to try the long and hard way: http://www.atpeaz.com/index.php/2012/using-unsupported-bluetooth-4-0-usb-dongle- with-os-x/
I just contact with support and they advice me to reinstall OSX with the internet option, now everything is working fine I have 10.8.5 and no more problems with bluetooth. Thank you Dinus Karras from Apple suport.

If you believe this is a bug in the 10.8.5 update, please use http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html to report it to Apple. (Be sure to choose "Bug Report" from the feedback type popup & include the requested HW/SW info.)
These forums (discussions.apple.com) are intended for user to user discussions, so it is unlikely that any of Apple's software engineers will see this topic anytime soon, if at all.
wil51 & Djtellado: please do the same thing.
Sorry to hear my advice wasn't of any help...
FYI: My BT prefs and the app itself are working fine on 10.8.5.
So, I would be inclined to follow the other posters' advice.
Good luck.
I don't have the option reinstall with the intenet option.
start with cmd-r is not working.
Try Alt+CMd+r
