I can't get my library to come up on Apple TV

I've tried to get home sharing to access my library on Apple TV. I tried it on another computer in another room and it worked fine but not on the main computer I want to connect to Apple TV with. This computer just has a modem but not a router. Does this have anything to do with it? Please let me know.

Apple TV, Windows 8

The computer must be connected to the same network. The modem is the device that communicates with the internet, the router organises your internal network and gives everything on it an address. Usually the modem and router are in the same device and all computers will connect to it either wirelessly or wired, is this not how yours is set up.
