Error -9672 in adding hp psc 1315xi all-in-one coonected to Airport Extreme

I just got a MacBook Pro and am trying to add an hp psc 1300 series printer attached to an airport extreme base. I have had no problems with this printer previously using several PowerBooks G4.

I have managed to add the printer by connecting directly to it, but when I try to add it as a bonjour (network) printer, I get Error -9672

I have followed the thread on this site regarding a psc 1200 printer that had the same problem. I have reinstalled the hp psc 1300 series drivers, used Disk Utility to correct any permissions, but still get the error.

Can anyone suggest what I can do?

MacBook Pro 17", Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Unfortunately when you get that error you pretty much have to call the printer manufacturer and see if they have any tricks up their sleeves. Otherwise you will need to wait for the printer driver to support wireless printing. Even when you buy a printer from the Apple store it doesn't mean you can use it wirelessly, just with a direct connection. Check out the printer's manufacturer's website to confirm if they acknowledge the printer as being Airport compatible.

Sometime you get lucky and printers not on the supported list work wirelessly….otherwise you are stuck printing with a wire connected to the computer or needing to exchange the printer for one that works wirelessly.

The HP "solution" is here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00777731&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en &product=1146331&lang=en

Solution

1. Click OK on the message prompt to close the message.
2. Uninstall the HP software that came with your printer using the HP uninstaller. From the hard drive, click Applications, then click HP and select HP Uninstaller. The uninstaller will open. Follow the on-screen prompts to uninstall the product.
3. From the hard drive, click Applications, then click Utilities and select the Printer Setup utility.
4. Click Add.
5. If your printer shows up in the printer list, select Printer. If the printer does not show up in the list, choose either Bonjour or Rendezvous as the connection type and then select the printer from the list.
6. Under the Print Using list, select HP.
7. In the list of available drivers, select the HP Photosmart P1000 – Gimp-Print driver.
8. Click Add.

NOTE: Using the Gimp-print driver might provide basic print-only functionality. This driver is a built-in driver in the Macintosh Operating System and will not provide all of the features that are provided using a direct USB connection.

Thanks for the suggestion, I had actually already tried this one, but this referes to a Photosmart printer where as I have an officejet 4110. Upon installing the GIMP driver fo rthe Photosmart, I was still unable to print via the airport.
