Is there a problem with the iTunes Store?

Every time I try to acces in since Sunday I get this...

We could not complete your iTunes Store Request. The iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable. Please try later.

Yet I can update apps that need to be updated?!

What's going on?

More information: On my PC my husband can sign in with his Apple ID with no problems but on his laptop I cannot so the issue is definitely with my account.

I had several Support Chats with apple this afternoon and was asked to change the password relating to my apple ID. I have now done this but it has had no effect.

Starting support chat number 3 ...

After spending 6 hours on this the other day with various support people at Apple the issue IS NOT resolved.

Here's what I know:

If I try and sign in to iTunes at any PC on our home Wifi I get the "We could not complete your iTunes Store Request. The iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable. Please try later."

If I enter my password deliberately wrong I get a different message so authentication is partially working.

The rest of my family can sign in to iTunes at any of 4 PC's in the house (indluding mine).

If I try to sign in to iTunes when connected to 3G (Samba UK) rather than Wifi (Virgin media) then I can sign in. How does this work?

I had a long (2 hour) phone call with senior apple tech support and it is a mystery to them too.

If there was an issue with our network then no-one would be able to sign in.

The only way I can explain this is that my account is on a different server and the path across the internet is somehow different and causing issues (number of hops vs TTL?) between Virgin media and Samba.

Anyone else got a clue why this is so (though at least I have a workaround now, but it is still broken).

Not planning on ringing again for a few weeks unless I really need to as support is not douby very busy after the release of iOS 7 & iPhone 5c/5s.

Sorry this did not work. My instructions are probably incomplete.

This is definitely something with cookies. Apple support walked me through the solution.

One thing I forgot to mention is that you have to re-enable cookies afterwards (the issue re-appeared on my Mac, I re-did my previous solution, could sign in, but could not do anything else until I re-enabled cookies).

(on one account I also re-entered my credit card verification number but I guess this is not related)

Sorry this dis not work for you. Re-enabling cookies in Safari worked for me.

I guess you have tried quitting/relaunching Safari, same with iTunes, restarting your Mac, signing off then back in to iTunes? (if not, you should)

2 other things the Apple support person walked me through (but that was not necessary on my other Macs) were:

- to turn off extensions in Safari

- to trash (no need to empty the trash) all items in your ~/Library/Cookies folder (on recent OS X, use the FInder's Go menu while pressing the alt key to be able to access the ~/Library foler)

Hope this helps,

Jérôme.

Try this, it worked for me...

Changed my password again.

Signed in and out a few times (didn't get the error message any more but still couldn't access my account details)

Quit iTunes then reopen.

Sign out then in then I got asked to verify my account payment details, which I did by filling in the missing bits of the credit card info such as expiry date and security code number.

Voila...I'm in! Finally!!!
