Sep 27, 2013 7:59 AM in response to paulhoynakby rda01775,Same deal here with me. Updated to 10.8.5 and now every morning I'm getting the error message about improperly disconnecting the disc (I have a 1TB LaCie drive serving as my Time Machine drive). Like the rest of you I do NOT disconnect that drive at night while my computer sleeps (of course since I want it to perform backups during the night).
Thanks for creating this thread. Now I feel much better. And thanks for those of you who've contributed feedback in detail to Apple.

Sep 28, 2013 4:54 PM in response to rda01775by Ravenmoon,Same here, along with a host of other USB issues. Apple really blew it with this update!
I have submitted feedback, but can only wait for Apple to fix its mess. (Why am I feeling like this is a pattern lately....?)

Oct 3, 2013 5:53 PM in response to Larry Byrdby Larry Byrd,My first check seems to confirm that the problem has indeed been corrected by installing OS 10.8.5 supplemental update 1.0 released today. Can anyone else confirm the fix?

Oct 3, 2013 6:02 PM in response to Larry Byrdby gordonf238,I've installed it a few hours ago, and reverted back my System Preferences -> Energy Saver setting to allow my display to sleep after 15 minutes. My display has since gone to sleep and not caused any drives to get ejected. So that part appears to have been fixed. I'll put the machine to sleep over night and report back in the morning.

Oct 4, 2013 10:18 AM in response to paulhoynakby origin2000,Supplemental update for 10.8.5 has finally resolved this issue for me. removed "keep drives spinning" scripts last night and installed the update. It's been 12+ hours now with no recurrence. Under 10.8.5 previously, the longest it had gone without ejecting the drives was an hour or two.

Oct 8, 2013 8:33 AM in response to paulhoynakby rktsmshr,I can confirm that it did NOT fix the problem on my Mac Mini. I was ecstatic seeing that in the list of fixes when I installed/rebooted yesterday. However, when I came in to work this morning, same thing. Drive not properly ejected.... Specifcally, the hard drive is a USB 3.0 Toshiba with an external power supply. I have verified that I have the SU1.0 installed.

Oct 8, 2013 8:51 PM in response to rktsmshrby spirofromsydney,I still have the same problem on my Mac Pro,again with a USB 3.0 Lacie drive and a Seagate and WD USB 2.0 external drives.
I guess we have to wait for Mavericks before we can safely put our Macs to sleep....

Oct 9, 2013 6:57 AM in response to paulhoynakby DanMier,Problem solved here! Everything works fine again, the drives do not go to sleep any more after the display-sleep. 10.8.5 Combo-Update (Build 12F45) returned things to normal.
