Stacks behavior and automatic Dock hiding

Stacks has the most bizarre behavior change when I turn on "automatically hide and show the Dock" in System Preferences.

With "automatically hide" off, if a stack is already open and I click on another stack, the first stack instantly closes and the second one opens simultaneously.

With "automatically hide" on, if a stack is already open and I click on another stack, the first stack closses. That's all. I have to click a second time to open the second stack.

I would like to know if there is a way to make Stacks behave as if "automatically hide" is off even while "automatically hide" is on. Does anyone know how?

P.S. I tried to do a screen recording of this but Stacks glitches out even more when Quicktime's screen recorder is running.
