Q: OSX 10.8.5 Update HDMI sound not output after source switch

Upgraded my Mac Mini this morning with latest update. Ever since, everytime I switch source on my TV from one to another, I'm not garanteed to have sound being output on my Mac Mini. Only solution is to reboot.

Am I the only one facing this kind of issue???

Same. New Mac Mini with HDMI into a Denon AV receiver. Mac sleeps, and when it wakes up the audio is gone. Reboot is the only way to restore it. Hopefully restoring from Time Capsule will work... This is our HTPC so it's somewhat important.

I have this problem too, on a mid 2011 Mac mini, really really annoyed, hope  a reliable solution becomes evident without too much tech savvy involved .

Same thing here: after 10.8.5 update, Mini6,1 loses HDMI audio output after some event or other that I can't yet nail down. Only reboot restores it. Built-in speakers are OK, as is headphone output.

Using amplified computer speakers off headphone jack as a workaround for the Mini's tinny/quiet speaker for now.

    Apple, pls fix soon.

I ran the combo update but no fix. Also plugging in my cosair usb headset causes OSX 10.8.5 to freeze up, only powering off the laptop and back on can fix it.

I do not believe that any thridparty software caused the issue, since so many of us have this problem. It worked fine in 10.8.4 so something changed and i would like to know what it is

The problem's back so combo update fix wasn't permanent.

Does the problem disappear if you start up in safe mode? If so, then a third party addition or a damaged system component has to be the cause.

BTW, I have checked with some other users that haven't posted here & they do not have this problem, so it isn't necessarily something in the 10.8.5 update itself that is the cause.

I installed MacOS 10.8.3 on top of my 10.8.5, the only thing that need to be reinstalled was Java.

The 10.8.5 updated is waiting in the app store.

Seen I don't have HDMI sound problem

So I'm gonna wait for an update for 10.8.5 before I update my Macmini...

As has been mentioned before in this topic, the only way to make sure the right people at Apple know about the problem is to use the feedback link, select 'bug report' as the type of feedback, & fill in the requested info.

Also note that this problem may be caused by something other than the update itself. If that is true then it is unlikely Apple will ever do anything about it except possibly publishing a Knowledge Base article explaining what users must do to correct it.

Either way, the more people that file feedback reports, the more attention this will get.

I have the same issue with HDMI audio after sleep on my Mac Mini (2012).

I tried several suggestions (SMC reset, coreaudiod reset and settings) and nearly reinstalled the OS.

Luckily I found this thread and hope Apple fixes this soon.
