10.8.5 reboot loop

Have a 2012 MBA.

After installing 10.8.5, the machine goes into a reboot loop (Apple icon -> "Your computer was restarted because of a problem"). I've tried verifying and repairing permissions on the disk via disk utility. I've tried zapping the pram also.

I restored to 10.8.4 via time machine and redid the 10.8.5 upgrade with the same result.

Any ideas?

Try starting in Safe Mode and see if the problem still occurs?

Restart holding the "shift" key.

(Expect it to take longer to start this way because it runs a directory check first.)

Then, boot up holding command-r keys into your Recovery Volume

First Choose Disk Utility from the menu. Run Disk Utility > Repair Disk, if you get errors run until no errors reported or reports "the disk cannot be fixed".

When it is error free reboot and test. If that still doesn't work try applying the 10.8.5 Combo update

http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1676. It doesn't matter if you've applied it before, it is a fuller install and can often fix system problems.

NoMachine just released an urgent "Update to NoMachine 4 Beta 2 for OS X" on Saturday to prevent incompatibilites introduced by the OS X 10.8.5 system update. You can read more about it here: http://www.nomachine.com/news-read.php?idnews=386.

It is only a temporary fix and means that USB device support is currently disabled. Developers are working to remove the incompatibilities which cause system crashes.
